quick doodle of Achii

might use this shot actually if i play with lighting and colours a bit

this was just to show you his wings
they are clipped because he tries to fly even with his injury causing him to crash

(this is the only time I will accept wing clipping myself if it is because the bird has an injury, any other reason inst good enough for me
things like flying in to windows and landing in p;aces you don't want them simply inst justification when you could easily put up blinds or move your precious items out of harms way.

you don't cut off a toddlers fingers so he doesn't stick them in an electrical socket do you?
no you cover the socket.

bluh
yeah it still bugs me

Seriously wish I could convince you to continue part 2. If there was a team or something you needed... -Misses Broken Wings-

I agree with you on the wing clipping. When my friends ( well her family's ) parakeet accidentally broke her wing from hitting a window, she begged her parents to leave the wings alone, but after she saw her birds trying to fly in the cage with her wing she had no choice.. ;n;

still not a good enough reason why not put up blinds or curtains instead, or show the bird there is glass there
with all; my birds I take them over to the window holding them and let them tap their beak against the glass then let them sit on the windowsill

parakeets are smart animals
my birds only ever crashed in to the window when I first got them before i did that but usually when they are young no injury occurs because they do not have strong flight muscles yet and fly slower
still blinds and net curtains are cheap and easy its really no excuse to mutilate your pet just so you don't have to worry about an open window (even open blinds birds won't usually fly in to)

I really hope her parent reconsider for the birds sake
the best form of excerize for a bird is flying it keeps them healthy and fir and happy
many clipped birds suffer from depression more so than unclipped because they cant fly away from situations that upset them and don't feel safe because of it being flight response creatures.

if i could go to her house and debate it I totally would :c

shes tried, her parents even agreed to take the parakeet back to the vet to make sure it was okay, but the vet said that the bones hadn't healed right, so she cant fly, with or without her feathers... :c so her parents have decided to keep cutting them...

me and my friend both hate it, but her parents wont even consider letting them grow back, even though she cant fly...

fix it how so?
sure its a bit wonky and undetailed, but it will only have a screen time of a few seconds.

if I did fix it all I'd be doing is moving it up a little

the toes are fine really if thats what you mean parakeets have two toes faceing forward two toes back: [link]

Well, it doesn't look like its gripping the edge(?) of the windowsill very well... It looks like your birdy is about to fall off!
The foot's anatomy is fine, its just the position.

he probably is about to fall off, my birds sit on the edge of the windowsill but the edge is really thick their foot can't actually stretch it at all, then again these are the same birds that have landed on my wall and hung there for a good few minutes.

to be honest this took a few minutes at 4 in the morning
I mean look at it compared to the rest of my gallery its hardly worth messing on with and improving since its such a basic piece to begin with

Mmm.
Well, you could take a bit of critique, even if it is a basic piece.

:iconmechanicalmasochist:

but critique is for improvement right?
but this piece isn't my best and i know there are many issues with it.
to critique this is to assume this is my skill at best and I am unaware of the flaws.

I ahve plenty of other time consuming pictures that are much more worthy of critique

But I could also mention something, in case you were not aware of the flaws, even though you probably are.

I will try to critique art when I can, to help the artist improve, whether or not the drawing took 8 hours, or 5 minutes.

but you have to understand a drawing of 8 minutes shouldn't be critiqued as its a pointless effort
an artist wont improved with information based off a doodle.
hence why i always label my doodles or quick drawings as such as being quick they are rushed and poorly drawn often with common mistakes . common mistakes the artist is well aware of

Wing clipping always broke my heart because of the fact that I always thought that birds should be free. The way they were born. So, whenever someone (like one of my friends) said they would clip their bird's wings, I tried my hardest to convince them not to. Seeing a bird not able to fly is really saddening for me because I love birds and the fact that they can't live very long without the ability to fly, unless, they had some help, but who knows how long they'd stay alive?

This drawing is so precious Flighty. I've gotten to actually pet an owl who had his wing clipped from an injury, and this drawing reminded me of it. I also agree that wing clipping isn't right what so ever unless for I injury purposes. Again, great drawing. <3

I got my parakeet when she was about 2 months and they had clipped her wings. I think they may have clipped them too short. She's nearing six months and her flight feathers still haven't grown back. <:c She still tries to fly but only flutters a few feet off the ground. She's starting to become obese because of this.

Love the colours.
The wing-clipping thing though bugs me too. I mean, I have a budgie (who turned ten in September; he's an old bird now) who has deformed wings - instead of being straight, they cross over, so he doesn't have very much control over his flight. He doesn't tend to crash into windows very much, because dispite his deformation he is quite a good flier, but we've never clipped his wings. Now that's he's so old though he prefers to be carried everywhere instead of flying. XD He's my fluffy, lazy bird who I wouldn't give up for the world.

The vet could have done surgery on her but they couldn't risk it since she was too small and could die in the procedure

Achii looks just like my cockatiel, Orion. Except Orion's wings have white spots and his back has darker gray spots.
But Orion is still a baby and has yet to grow into his adult feathers. :meow:

But he was so determinded he would still fly to me from his cage.
You can clip their wings, but you can't take their will to fly<3

do you still clip them?

I really hate breeders/pet shops that clip young birds because that is crucial time for them to learn flight control thank fully its not common place in the Uk

besides the best part of owning birds is calling them to fly to you and knowing they can fly away and they don't, the trust<3

No, they're mostly grown out now, too. He's learned to fly really well now.:)

And I know. It's really unsafe for them. What if they need to fly away from say, a predator, like a cat, but couldn't, cause they were either clipped or never had a chance to learn how to fly?

It's so sweet, having your bird fly down to your shoulder <3 Like you said, you know they trust you.
